BOLD Program

BOLD SCHOLARS

BOLD gathers college women in cohorts of at least 7 BOLD Scholars each year to develop their leadership skills, help them clarify their career objectives, and provide experiences that will facilitate their transition into that career upon graduation. Students are selected on the basis of leadership potential, merit, and financial need, with an eye towards the creation of diverse cohorts. Scholars receive generous scholarship funding for their junior and senior years and have access to other supports and resources through BOLD.

Each BOLD institution chooses an area of focus for their cohorts, consistent with that school's mission and vision; thus, BOLD Scholars on one campus might be first-generation college students, whereas another institution may choose to select students from rural communities, or students with an interest in STEM fields. Each cohort is mentored by the BOLD Director at their respective campus with support from a BOLD Lead, normally an administrator who believes in the vision and mission of BOLD.

MAGIC GRANTS

BOLD cohorts at each school may apply for a “Magic Grant” from the Foundation to support campus or community transformation projects. These projects are designed to promote positive social change on campus, or in relevant local or international communities. Another important benefit of these projects if the opportunity for BOLD Scholars to work with their peers and develop teamwork and leadership skills.

BOLD ADVISORY GROUP

Each school identifies an administrative leader for the program, and funding is provided by the Foundation to support a BOLD Director to guide the work of BOLD and support BOLD Scholars. Each participating school is also responsible for convening a BOLD Advisory Group, made up of the administrative, faculty, and staff leaders of the BOLD program, who work to support the Scholars, and facilitate the goals of the program.

HELEN GURLEY BROWN BOLD FELLOWSHIP

Because BOLD is designed to facilitate the pathway for exceptional young women from college to career, BOLD Scholars have the opportunity to apply for a Helen Gurley Brown Fellowship upon graduation. Scholars identify organizations with whom they would like to work for a year upon graduation and develop a role that supports their career goals and contributes to that organization. The Fellowship provides generous funding for graduates' expenses during that year.
